Just spotted this one via a post over at Gear Diary, and watched a video demo of this new iPhone ringtone making application called iRinger.
iRinger looks like a very good free option for ringtone creation - offering a very easy to use interface and a good, complete set of features - even down to letting you choose to export a newly created ringtone direct to iTunes or using SSH to directly transfer it to the iPhone.
This one is a Windows only application for now, so I’ve not given it a try as yet (too lazy just now to get iTunes setup on Fusion) - but it looks awfully good in the demo. Here’s some of the highlights of its feature list:
For more on iRinger, see its home page, or check out the demo video HERE …

Getting tired of that ringtone, but not sure where to look for more? How about subscribing to one in iTunes? TeenBuzz.com has released several of their signature high-frequency ringtones in the form of a podcast. It’s very convenient: new ringtones download automatically to iTunes into the Ringtones directory, ready to be synced to the iPhone. Hopefully this will grow into something big, as it very well could.
You can click here to subscribe to their ringtone podcast (…ring-cast?). A detailed tutorial on how to use their feed is available here.
Update: Teen Buzz just posted with information that Apple has accepted their feed for inclusion in iTunes. There is a good chance that this could be the next big thing in podcasting and ringtones alike, especially now that they have Apple’s blessing.

Fission - http://www.rogueamoeba.com/fission/index.php
MakeiPhoneRingtone - http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
iTunes - http://www.apple.com/itunes
Please note that Fission is not freeware, but it is the greatest loose-less audio editor that I have ever used, so I really recommend purchasing it from these guys. You might use any other audio editors to trim your MP3 or AAC file such as Audacity which I’m not really familiar with.
1. First fire up Fission and open the .mp3 or .aac file that you would like to edit.
2. On the top part of the window click right below the sound graph until you get a yellow triangle this is going to be your starting point so drag this triangle over to where you want your ringtone to start.
3. Drag the other triangle to where you want your ringtone to end (Max. 40secs)
4. Click on crop and go ahead and click on File/ Save As. Save the file to your desktop.
5a. If you have an mp3 file skip to step 6
5b. If the file is an .aac file you are ready to open up MakeiPhoneRingtone and drag the edited file to that window to have it added to your iTunes Ringtones Library. You are done
6. If you have an MP3 file drag it over to your iTunes library, click on View/ View Options and Select “Kind” Click “OK”
7. Search for the file that you just added to the library it might be easier to sort by time and look for the 30-40 seconds file. Right Click the file and select Convert Selection to AAC. File is going to convert and you are going to have two files with the same name. (One MP3 and one AAC)
8. If you like you can delete the MP3 from your iTunes library. Drag the AAC file from your iTunes library onto your desktop to make a copy of it. You can now get rid of the AAC file on your iTunes library since we have a copy on the desktop.
9. Open up MakeiPhoneRingtone and drag the AAC file that we drug out of the iTunes library window into the MakeiPhoneRingtone and the ringtone is going to come up on your Ringtones Library. You are done..
Please comment if you find an easier way of doing this. This is the method I currently use to make my own ringtones without having to buy iToner.

TuneCore is offering 34 free song downloads at the US iTunes store. No, it’s not any 34 songs, it’s 34 songs by artists who are TuneCore customers. TuneCore is an iTunes listing service that helps artists get their music on the iTunes Store. To get your free tracks, visit their free album page and generate a unique iTunes code. Artists on the free album include the Dandy Warhols (famous for the Veronica Mars intro) and Maureen McCormick, of the Brady Bunch. How is the actual music? The quality, er, varies. For reasons I do not begin to understand, the combination of iTunes 7.5 and the 1.1.2 iPhone once again allow you to add custom iphone ringtones without fussing with property lists and special software. Take any m4a file, thirty-seconds or less (although some report success with tracks up to 40 seconds), rename it to m4r and double-click to add it to iTunes. The file appears in your ringtones and can be synched–I tested this out myself–to your iPhone.
So has Apple relented? Or is this a momentary lapse of oversight? Only time will tell.

With iPhone firmware v1.1.1 jailbroken and a tool for fixing bricked iPhones in place, and the ball is in Apple’s court, and they’ve taken their first swing back at iPhone modification. The first sync of iTunes 7.5 with a jailbroken iPhone will remove the customized ringtones. Luckily, for those who experience this problem, there is a solution.
According to Michael Simmons, Director of Marketing for Ambrosia, there have been problems with the new iTunes removing custom ringtones placed on the iPhone with iToner. He says “Just a heads up, iTunes 7.5 just came out, and it removes all of your custom ringtones when you connect your iPhone for the first time. If you resync again with iToner, then everything is fine (even subsequent syncs with iTunes is fine, it’s just the initial connect of your iPhone that blows out the custom ringtones for some reason).”

Erica Sadun, the genius over at TUAW who keeps developing these amazing apps for the iPhone has just upgraded her SendSong app to work with the new firmware(Send iphone song via email). She did say it’s still kind of flakey though.
It’s free, and I am pretty sure you’ll be able to find it in the Installer.app. Now if we could just get that pesky mail app working on the iPod Touch you could probably use at least the email function of this app on your iPod Touch. Download it at here.

The iToner saga continues. As you might recall, iToner (which allows you to create ringtones for your iPhone using any non-DRMed AAC or MP3 files) no longer worked with the iPhone 1.1.1 firmware. All seemed lost, but those crafty folks at Ambrosia figured out a way to get iToner working as a beta. The beta has now been released as a full fledged update.
iToner 1.0.3 costs $15 and requires OS x 10.4.10 or higher and an iPhone.

Looks like those Ambrosia Guys have made a break-through. This video shows their iToner utility working with the iPhone 1.1.1 firmware. iToner, as you may already know, allows you to install third-party iPhone ringtones. So you can either use your personal audio collection or record your Mom saying “Pick up the phone!”
The 111-compatible update to iToner is still in beta but as this video shows, it should be arriving soon.
