I don’t know about any of you, but if I’m doing word association, Vista and perfection don’t often go together. But … this new VistaPerfection 2.0 iPhone theme is awfully impressive.
VistaPerfection was created by Spec Works (MMi forum member ebl4287). It’s a Summerboard compatible theme that gives your iPhone that unmistakable ‘I’m a PC’ feel - and has a very complete set of customization elements, including:
You’ll need to go through a fair number of steps, using the Categories app from the BigBoss source (and be comfortable with connecting via SSH to you phone for some of the steps) - but there is a very good set of instructions for you to follow - and the results look well worth the effort.
VistaPerfection is not on Installer just yet - so head over HERE for the download link and instructions on how to get it all looking and working just so.

Web designers and enthusiasts are likely already familiar with Dave Shea, the Canadian web designer behind the css Zen Garden and other standards-based web projects. If you’re not familiar with him from that angle, you may recognize his Chalkwork series of icons which has just had a set of iPhone & iPod touch icons added to it.
While most of his work comes with a well-deserved price tag, this set is available free of charge. It contains 29 well-designed icons, including the default applications and some select third-party apps. The download includes a selection of Dock and Wallpaper images as well. You’ll need a jailbroken iPhone/touch to use them and the set comes with instructions for manual and SummerBoard installations.
iPhone/iPod touch owners (and anyone else who wants to) can download the free icon set at mezzoblue.

I used to think that installing a skin on my iPhone was unnecessary. After all, I pretty much always keep it in some sort of a case and a skin takes away from iPhones natural good looks. Right?
I quickly changed my mind after my iPhone took an unfortunate four-foot fall onto pavement. While I was running. You see, it only takes one incident like that to realize that a case alone is not always enough. Every time I see the gashes (yes, plural) in the top corners of my iPhone it reminds me of the cruel reality of gravity.
The perfect combination of skin and holster appears to be the ToughSkin for iPhone from Speck Products (US$30). It combines a silicone skin (in a pretty innocuous black, I might add) that protects iPhone from most bumps and drops with a click-in holster that attaches to the skin so that you can wear it on your belt. The ToughSkin also comes in a less-likable clear.
The skin itself is super strong with extra padding on the corners and cut outs for the mute button and camera lens. While not super tacky, the silicone skin does attract its share of dust and lint, but utilizing the belt clip helps to keep the lint problem to a minimum.
The nice part about the ToughSkin is its 360-degree swivel clip/stand holster combo. Vertical holsters don’t work particularly well with me, so I like that I can orient the ToughSkin in a horizontal configuration on my belt. The holster itself keeps a fairly tight grip on the ToughSkin but it’s not immune to popping out if you catch it on something, so be careful. The stand configuration turns the holster’s belt clip into a pop-out leg for a better viewing angle for video content–but I didn’t find myself using it much.
When I keep my iPhone in my pocket, it’s harder to grab when someone’s calling but better protected. When wearing my iPhone on my belt, it’s a lot easier to answer when ringing but it’s also more susceptible to being introduced to the sidewalk when it’s fumbled. It’s a tradeoff folks. The ToughSkin isn’t perfect, but it’s the right combination of protective iphone case and holster to meet my needs quite nicely.
There are also many awesome iphone themes and iphone wallpapers for you to free download.

There’s a growing number of fan-made themes for the iPhone which, if you’ve been keeping up with Jailbreaking your handset and generally tweaking it, have offered plenty of options for personalisation. However, one thing missing so far has been a way to flip between themes while away from your computer; imagine the horror at pulling out your iPhone to impress a lady when your arch-rival whips his out with - oh no! - the same Spiderman wallpaper! Thankfully Greg over at ModMyiPhone is tinkering with an app called iSwitcher, designed to make on-the-fly changes simple.
So far there’s no release client, but eventually it’ll offer full-screen previews, side-scrolling and one-touch install of a chosen iphone theme. Nice work, Greg!

This iphone theme is created by Slugworth from www.modmyiphone.com. Really cool! You can also download it at here.
To use this skin you have to use something like iFuntastic and add a Demo App to the bottom left corner of your home screen (right above the phone icon). And replace the icon.png in the “DemoApp” folder of the attachment. The DemoApp icon i created is a hack that is used to see the entire background effect.
